New Ross Lions Club is part of a world wide organisation and while our club contributes financially to the International funds & projects such as Sight first. This funds clinics in Africa to fight endemic blindness, disaster relief for earthquakes etc but for the most part have 95% of our work has a very local focus.
One of the headline successes of the lions club project is the Dunbrody Famine Ship which is a product of the JFK Trust which in turn was born of a project started by New Ross lions club in the early 80’s to investigate prospects of developing tourism in the area. The initial board of JFK Trust were all New Ross Lions club members.
Another is the meitheal anti bullying programme now available in all 2nd level schools in Wexford . Fr. Odhran Furlong set it up in one school and our club committed to fund the costs for 5 years which enabled him to expand the project to its present success.
